The DURAGARD Roofing System is very lightweight and flexible, is the best choice for flat and low-sloped roofs, and can be applied on even the most irregular-shaped roofs. Upkeep and owner maintenance costs are minimal, and in addition, DURAGARD provides excellent exterior thermal insulation values for the structure.

The DURAGARD Roofing System possesses a high strength-to-weight ratio, weighing approximately 70% less than other competing asphalt roofing systems. DURAGARD locks the structural roof deck together with a superior monolithic barrier that is resistant to heat and moisture. Fire Resistive Design

The DURAGARD Roofing System complies with UL Fire Resistive Design numbers UL P-733 & UL P-826 for approved metal deck construction and UL P-904 for approved concrete deck construction and can achieve a designated 1, 2 or 3-hour fire rating.

Environment

Manufacturer's Certificates for the DURAGARD Roofing System confirm that the polyurethane insulation and elastomeric coating components are VOC compliant and environmentally safe. The DURAGARD polyurethane foam insulating system is a CFC-11 and HCFC 245 lb product. DURAGARD polyurethane foam insulation is also UL 723 tested and rated.

Residential Maintenance/Inspections

The top coat of a foam roof system is most often white or a light color, which reflects sunlight away from the roof's surface. Thus, when working with white or light color top coats, it is very advisable to wear dark glasses to prevent possible eye damage or temporary snow blindness.

The polyurethane foam roof system installed on your structure is designed to last far longer than conventional asphalt roof systems. Timely roof inspections and maintenance can greatly extend the life of your DURAGARD roof and reduce the overall cost of maintenance. Your roof should be inspected at least once every two years for detection of membrane damage. During this inspection, the observer should check termination points of roof coatings on vent pipes, mechanical curbs and roof edges for evidence of exposed foam.

High winds can routinely spread leaves, plants and debris onto the roof surface. Be sure to inspect after storms to prevent the accumulation or collection of unwanted debris. Check roof drains and scuppers to keep water from backing up and entering the structure through perimeter or penetration flashings.

Lubricating oils, grease, fuel or other petroleum compounds should not be allowed to spill on the roof surface. These products can damage the roof surface and repairs are made more difficult. Flame or torch cutting tools on the roof should always be used with extreme caution.

If light damage, such as divots from roof traffic or dropped tools, occurs to the membrane of your roof, follow these instructions:

Instructions

  • Remove loose coating and foam insulation from the damaged area and clean area of damage using a small wire brush.
  • Fill holes with a compatible acrylic/latex caulking compound only. Allow 4 hours to cure before continuing.
  • Apply two to three coats of acrylic roof coating to the repaired area allowing approximately one hour between coats for curing. Total cured thickness should be approximately 1/16 of an inch.
  • If applicable, apply roofing granules onto the uncured topcoat.

Take time to protect your investment. The roof should be off limits to sunbathers, spectators, and recreational activities. Soft sole footwear such as tennis shoes should be worn when walking on the roof.
